Samoyed Health Research - Arizona Samoyeds participate!
SCCA is proud to announce our participation in several research studies on Samoyed Health being conducted by the AKC Canine Health Foundation and Samoyed Club of America Education and Research Foundation (SCARF). We encourage you to visit the websites of both organizations to learn more about the research being conducted to protect the health of our wonderful breed. The Samoyed Club of Central Arizona is actively encouraging all Arizona Samoyeds owners to consider participating in upcoming studies. Diabetes Study will be re-scheduled in September
This study is sponsored jountly by AKC and the Canine Health Foundation. In a study on diabetes mellitus, Dr. Hess found that Samoyeds were 12 times more likely to develop DM than mixed dog breeds. To further this study, blood samples are needed from any diabetic Samoyed and also samples from Samoyeds 7 years or older who are NOT diabetic. The study requires drawing 15 ml of blood (3 tablespoons) from your dog.

How to Participate: SCCA is making this easy for all Arizona dogs to participate - same day, location and at NO COST to you. Through the generousity of Dr. Bracken at Arcadia Animal Clinic, a clinic will be held where your dog can make a quick visit for a simple blood draw. The study requires drawing 15 ml of blood (3 tablespoons) from your dog. Dr Bracken will send in all samples and paperwork. All you need to do is let us know you are coming and fill out a short questionnaire. Here are the details:
Who: Non-diabetic Sams 7 yrs and older, Diabetic Sams-any age
